The use of intelligent lighting controls within the home environment has grown dramatically over recent years and Mode Lighting offer a range of controls to suit any scale of residence, from a single room, perhaps a home cinema, to multi-room lighting control systems and whole home systems offering connectivity and control of other devices for the complete Smarthome experience. Lighting controls for the home can usually be divided into two simple categories, Retrofit where dimmers replace existing switches or can use existing cables and structured wiring systems where dimmers are located remotely with control plates connected by data cables around they property.

The type of control or the “user experience” is also an important factor to consider. For some clients the power of scene setting systems, with the ability to control groups of lighting together for a “party” or “cinema” setting or to control of the entire house for welcome and exit control may be preferred, while others may look for some form of manual control for example a push button to dim lights up/down and on and off (we call this Impulse control). While the size of a property and the type of control may influence the type of system required it is important to realise that the key to lighting a home is that the controls must feel natural to the home owner.
